BOOK REVIEW: The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult

I discovered this book on a “hand-picked display” in the library. Inside was a bookmark with a recommendation, “this is the most touching, heart-rending book I’ve ever read, but it is so worth the tears.”
It is told with multiple POV. The scenes move from past to present several times.
There is a confession which rips apart the first main character and forces her to consider how she feels about the person who is both friend and enemy.
How must she reconcile his revelation with the suffering experienced by her grandmother? Will she share the problem with her grandmother? Protect her?
When he asks her to do the unthinkable, can she do it? Or, will she create circumstances that puts the request in the hands of the government?
The ending is complicated and, perhaps, surprising.
I will let you decide if the librarian’s description is also yours.
